Roughly Hewn and Crudely Rendered

Sun Oct 11, 2009, 2:50 PM
I have not written anything for you people in a long time, how does that make you feel?

As with many other creatures of meat and bone, I have my times and they have me.. And to be fair, I am not a writer, I am an artist, which means my meat is employed with the task of capturing visions on paper, not typing love letters to the void. ...but rest assured, I paint daily.

Incidentally, I write this in the morning, spending time with my first love, sweet creamy coffee. Concocting artistic opinions; lazily twisting esoteric vocabulary words into strange loops, with a dash of popular literary references to taste.

Nothing has gone wrong in the kitchen, the interview has started, Come in! Come in!

What inspires you to create images with acrylic paint on paper?

I read a lot of Vonnegut, appreciating fierce fiction; I drink a lot of coffee, not black as you might think. Straight up is a poets brew, I am not interested in suffering and purity in the morning. I like to wake up in a land of milk and honey. This leads me to create.

I use paper since it is cheap to frame and comes in a big pad labeled, ‘Acrylic Paper’.

I work in Acrylic because I am allergic to solvents, I would love to paint with oils but as my studio and bedroom are one, I do not want to sleep in a toxic cloud of vapors. Camping with Adam once was enough.

Is your work illustration or fine art?

Do your research!

Illustration is Art that does not have to be explained. Fine art is best kept locked up in museums, where it is unlikely to escape.

My work is roughly hewn at best. It is Art only in that I am an Artist, and I am not even sure if ‘art’ should be capitalized. The images I create are an extension of my body a bio-luminescent appendage in a dark world; used to illuminate my life like a gilded manuscript; impregnating my words with value even the illiterate barbarian hoards will recognize. Is that too much, a little over the top?

The fictional Abstract-expressionist painter Rabo Karabekian was an artist. He covered vast canvasses in a single color (bought in volume at discount) penetrated by vertical lines of a contrasting color (often strips of masking tape). This simple combination was a hit. These canvasses secured him a place in art history as a founding member of the first movement in art to come solely from America; relax, I have an Art degree.

...A LIBERAL Arts degree (with a major in ART!)! Which is why my art is crudely rendered but my rhetoric unassailable.

I hope this clears things up.

Pace Out!
